SOLPOLL HEREFORDS

‘Vindicator’ was selected in the autumn of 2004 to succeed ‘Ultimate’ as our leading herd sire. The bull was selected on a visit to David Carroll’s Udel herd were he was running with his cows whilst Udel 1 Veteran, twice Irish National Champion, was shown. The strength of Vindicator’s dam was also a considerable factor and his sire Doonbiddie Hustler has been used worldwide and extensively throughout the British Isles. His first bull calf born was sold in January 2007 and made a N.I. Record Price which helped to secure the award of Sire of The Year 2006/07 which he won again for 2007/08. Three sons have been used in the herd with his best son ‘Dynamite’ a breed legend.

COSTHORPE 1 GRANITE

‘Granite’ had been spotted on his first show outing when he stood Junior & Reserve Supreme Champion at the 1991 Shropshire & West Midlands Show but he was not for sale, he was eventually purchased in 1993 after winning the UK Bull of the Year for 6000gns at the Event of the Year Sale. He left very saleable bulls and his females were tremendous cows and in the background of most of the current herd. A daughter ‘Dainty N11’ was the Reserve Female of the Year 1997 and he is a past Sire of the Year and Sire of the Progeny Pair of the Year.

We feel that Dynamite is the complete package and combines all the attributes we look for whenever selecting a stock bull. His success in the show ring is well documented including being 3 times Royal Ulster Champion. His sons have sold to 6200gns, received for Geronimo, Male Champion Hereford Sale 2011. His first 14 sons sold have averaged £3350. He breeds calves that look well from day one and his first 60 pedigree calves born to date on farm have had an average birth weight of 41kg with a range from 32kg to 53kg. Semen from him has been sold to breeders in Denmark, England, Northern Ireland, Norway, Republic of Ireland, Scotland and Wales. His daughters make up a large part of our herd helping is to win the UK Herds Competition in 2014 & 2016.  He is a 4 times NI Sire of the Year and still used by AI in the herd.

‘Radar’ is an imported Canadian embryo which we owned in partnership with Christies Herefords. Sired by twice Canadian National Champion  Remitall Patriot 13P, the record selling bull at $195 000 for half interest. Patriot had the largest ribeye ever measured on a bull calf at Agribition. Radar’s calves born on farm have had very moderate birth weights averaging 37kg. A daughter ‘F19’ was Junior Female Champion at the National Show 2010. His daughters make tremendous cows, his best son Gilbert sired 5 UK Females of the Year in a row.
